The Wedding of your Dreams?

Muriel and her husband were scheduled to marry in Mexico. The wedding had been planned for nearly a year. 75 guests were flying in to celebrate this grand occasion. Then, two weeks before Muriel's big day, news of the swine flu swept across the country and travelers were advised to cancel trips. Muriel was devastated. A year of planning down the drain. Plane tickets and resort reservations wasted. Her dream wedding vanished. What would she do?

Although Muriel was heart-broken that the wedding she had envisioned could not take place, all was not lost. Muriel realized that her wedding day was not all about the exotic locale, the decorations, the food or even the guests. It was about her and her husband. It was about solidifying the bond they share, and making an eternal commitment to one another. Sure, she was disappointed that they couldn't make this commitment barefoot on a sandy beach, but life is full of such disappointments and obstacles. This was an opportunity for Muriel and her husband to turn the negative into a positive. They would continue with there wedding at an alternate location.

In the end, they had the wedding of their dreams because they married the person they wanted to spend the rest of their life with. Because they were surrounded by the people who love them. Because they remembered that underneath the decoration of a wedding stands the love and commitment of two people.

As you plan your Caribbean wedding, stay open-minded. For instance, if your wedding will be outdoors, create a back-up plan in case of inclement weather. Nearly all weddings present an obstacle to overcome, but these obstacles do not have to be disastrous. Planning ahead will allow you to relax and breathe easier on your big day.

I am a Caribbean Bride...

Letters written by real brides-to-be about their journey to becoming Caribbean Brides
Bio:
Natalie, 26 from Barbados
Getting married to Sean on May 16 in Barbados

A few days to go before my wedding day and, surprisingly, I haven’t found myself running around, screaming at anyone who crossed my path or tossing and turning in bed at night. In fact, I’m quite calm. I’ve heard countless stories of all the last minute things that I’d be doing during the final week of my wedding but this morning I found myself laying in bed until 11:00 am!! Why? My maid-of-honour keeps telling me that I’m not the typical bride because I’m a professional planner...I even planned which boxers Sean will wear on our wedding day. Don’t get me wrong, I worry like anyone else and keep asking myself: “Why hasn’t anything gone wrong? Everyone who told me that something would go wrong couldn’t possibly be wrong. Or could they?” One of our groomsmen even commented last week that everything was going too smoothly and according to plan (I guess he’s speaking from experience). While he did manage to scare the hell out of Sean and me, we’re trying to stay calm and enjoy this final week.

After watching countless of episodes of ‘Bridezilla’ I’ve resigned myself not to worrying about something possibly going wrong, but rather to focusing on the true meaning of the day. So often, a bride can get wrapped up in the event and forget that she’s making the most important vows one can make. While this may sound cliché, focusing on the vows that I’ll be taking has been what has kept me sane – well as sane as a bride with three days to go before her wedding could be!

A romantic wedding in Bequia

There is no better place for your wedding and honeymoon in the Southern Caribbean than Spring House, located on the charming Grenadine island of Bequia. A stone’s throw from its more famous neighbor Mustique, Bequia has retained its old world charm having escaped the tourism boom while keeping its 1960’s feel and small island friendliness.

Spring House has recently undergone extensive reconstruction and offers luxury accommodation for up to 16 guests in 8 magnificent suites spread over its two landscaped acres. Rebuilt in true colonial style, the house oozes charm and every corner reveals another patio, veranda or private space. Each air conditioned suite enjoys locally handcrafted furniture including four poster beds that flow in lace. Designed, built, staffed and managed by local Vincentians, it is the ideal destination for weddings, family reunions, corporate groups, or just a gathering of friends.
Choose their All Inclusive Plan and really take the work out of enjoying your special occasion. If you are the one doing the organizing, you will appreciate the many services that are included.  Local flights from Barbados, airport transfers, rental cars, meals, open bar, and a full staff from chefs to gardeners to maids are just a few of the items that come with the one price package.

From flowers to legal documents, from cakes to photographs, our wedding service can be as involved or detached as you wish. We can organize everything, leave everything to you or anything in between. A 24 hour residency requirement allows you to get married and then have your honeymoon. Some of our brides have their hearts set on a beach wedding, some prefer a ceremony at Spring House. Our House Manager has over 25 years experience as an executive chef and hotel manager and will help you put together the day as it best suits you.
More of a luxury private resort than just a villa, they have a wide range of activities from a 40 foot designer pool to a full size pool table. Overlooking Spring Bay, Spring House is convenient to everything on the island while preserving your privacy. Port Elizabeth is just six minutes away and there is easy access to Bequia’s many beaches.

If you are looking for the perfect wedding destination, good food, wonderful beaches and a calm and friendly atmosphere, this really is the paradise so often sought but
rarely found. Bequia– the island that tourism forgot.

Newspaper article on Jamaica Destination Weddings Expo

Destination theme vacations are the latest tool being used in the region to stimulate the tourism industry. So says Dave Cox of the Toronto and Barbados based Caribbean Bride Magazine. Caribbean Bride was featured last month at the inaugural Jamaica Destination Weddings and Honeymoon Expo in New York.

The Destination Weddings and Honeymoon Expo is a new venture of The Worldwide Group Travel in partnership with the Jamaica Tourist Board. The "Jamaica Only" event was held at the Holiday Inn Westbury in Carle Place.

Cox, who also produced the fashion show for the Expo said that The Worldwide Group Travel has found that in this challenging economic climate, it is still possible for a bride to have the wedding of her dreams. Jamaica is being promoted as providing the perfect combination of a luxury wedding location, romantic honeymoon destination and the affordability that today's bride is seeking.

He said that his magazine’s target market is not only persons residing in the Caribbean but also couples from North America and Europe. “The magazine in essence is a tool to promote the Caribbean as an ideal wedding paradise and we are already on sale throughout the US. This event is a perfect place for us to promote the magazine and our website and we are honoured to have been invited to take part.”

Vendors to the new Destination Weddings and Honeymoon Expo included traveling photographers, hair stylists, make-up artists, creators of wedding favours and invitations, and a web designer who helped brides create personalized wedding websites. Due to the event’s overwhelming success the Jamaica Tourist Board has asked Worldwide Group Travel and Caribbean Bride to produce five more Expos in the coming months in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Miami, Atlanta and New York.

I am a Caribbean Bride...

Letters written by real brides-to-be about their journey to becoming Caribbean Brides
Bio:
Nadja, 29 from Serbia
Getting married to Sacha on June 6 in Barbados

Choosing the Dress
My experience of choosing the wedding dress was very stressful. That is because of the limited time I had and the specific dress that I wanted. I came home to Serbia for three weeks with a mission impossible: to find the dress, shoes, jewellery, and fabric for my bridesmaid's dresses (all 12 of them). I also had to choose the design for their dresses, not to mention that I had to choose the venue, music, band and everything we will need for another wedding party that we are going to have in Serbia for my friends and family that won't be able to make it to the Caribbean. To all of that you can add freezing cold weather! I always wanted something unconventional and unique for my wedding and I just couldn't find it at first.

A friend recommended a famous designer and my entourage and I were in front of his show room within an hour. We stepped in and a miracle happened. Once you see your dress you immediately know it. You recognize it right away hanging on the hanger like a piece of art. Once you put it on you are the happiest person in the world and all the stress and thoughts you had before are gone with the wind. I have found the dress of my dreams and I can't wait for my wedding day for Sacha to see me in it.

Designer wedding

Canadian bridal designer Danielle Cormier and Mike Doiron tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony in Barbados on July 12, 2008. The couple from Brampton Ontario first met in a chance meeting in a bar while out with friends and it was definitely a case of love at first sight. Mike proposed during a romantic dinner on a surprised trip to Bermuda. "He got down on one knee and told me the five things he loves about me, I always told him throughout our nine years of dating that if or when we were to get married that he better know at least five things he loves about me" Danielle says.

The couple chose the Casaurina Beach Resort in Barbados because of the ease of getting available flights for their guest and also because the resort accommodated children. On the day the bride wore a Daniella Couture gown made and designed by the bride and the bridesmaids also wear custom made gowns from her line. Danielle's dress was a mermaid gown with spaghetti straps made of silk taffeta. The groom and groomsmen wore bespoke suits by famed tailor Lou Myles know for his custom suits for celebrities like Muhammed Ali. Mike sported a tan linen suit and white shirt while the guys wore light pink long sleeve shirts and tan pants. The unique thing at the ceremony was after the bride's father walked her half way down the aisle and then her mother walked her and her daughter the rest of the way where her daughter gave her away.

The reception for 60 guests included Caribbean seafood salad, chargrilled angus sirloin steak and tender lobster tail, grilled chicken breast in port wine jus, penne and fusili pasta and the dessert was Florida orange and lemon sorbet. After the wedding the couple spent an extra four days in Barbados and got a chance to explore the many secluded beaches while on a chartered boat cruise.

Congratulations to Danielle and Mike.

Airport Shoot

I met three ladies yesterday in the airport on their way to St. Lucia. What caught my attention was that they were having a full photoshoot in front for a mini water fountain and they were all just using cell phones to take the pictures. After each couple of shots they would huddle and compare shots and then start over with new poses. Why was this so strange to me...

Well for the past three days we have been shooting our fashion spread with high end cameras, strobes, reflectors, make-up artist, assistants, and a stylist. On the outside these two shoots were quite difference but the fundamental essence was quite the same. I really wish that our images get the same emotion and excitement from viewers as these girls were getting from each others images on these tiny cell phones. At the end of the day it isn't really the execution but the emotion a pictures evokes that makes it a great and memorable image.

I walked over and offered them three magazines and they halted production on the set to peruse the magazine and they seemed impressed. "Do you have anymore" one asked and I actually had some copies of our first issue so I handed out a round of those as well. They politely said thanks and then returned to the set. A quick check of the lighting and their hair and they were off for the close ups shoots.

These girls enjoyed taking pictures.

The secluded luxury of Balliceaux House

Balliceaux House (pronounced “Bali-so”) is a three bedroom villa which sits perched above crown point and offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, Spring bay, and the islands of Battowia and Balliceaux.

The villa is completely open and aptly designed for the tropics. Constructed primarily of Brazilian greenheart and Bequia stone, the style is warm and contemporary with a mix of antiques and vintage furnishings.

The grounds are extremely private and well insulated by lush terraced gardens. There is separation of the main house and guest wing making it ideal for couples to share the villa. Indoor and outdoor dining tables are available, and the kitchen is equipped with a thermador gas range and outside grill. The atmosphere is pristine and windswept with regular trade winds off the Atlantic. Large ocean views are consistent from nearly every part of the villa.
